About PHF

Peoples Health Foundation.

The Peoples Health Foundation (PHF) hereafter referred as the ‘foundation’ was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Nigeria as a charity on the 26th February 2018. This initiative was conceived and presented to leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in October 2016 at the national headquarters, Abuja, Nigeria.

The primary idea is to provide party staff a platform to access healthcare without the requirement to pay for services at the point of need and also as a vehicle for the party to take its vision of universal healthcare campaign to communities across Nigeria through health missions and public health education.

In pursuit of our strategic vision, PHF will engage healthcare professionals and advisors, both within Nigeria and beyond. These experts will be linked with our resident healthcare providers to deliver technical support, advisory services and practical field training.

Vision:
To provide modern healthcare and wellness centers of international standard nationwide providing excellent medical services with linked e-health technology at an affordable cost.

Mission:
Provide global best practice health solutions to party members and members of the public.

Aim & Objective:

  1. To promote the social welfare agenda of the foundation and the age-long progressive idea that good healthcare must be available to all regardless of wealth.
  2. Promote accessible qualitative healthcare for staff and members as a practical way of promoting social democratic values at grassroots level.
  3. To operate health centres as a social enterprise (non-profit) organisation by ensuring that all proceeds are reinvested into the system.
  4. Peoples Health Foundation will raise funds and material donations from diverse but legitimate sources both locally and international to ensure continuous access to high quality services.
  5. To ensure that members who are medical and allied health professionals are engaged to provide services as well as run skill transfer programme.
  6. To advocate for three core principles of health care: that it meet the need of everyone, that it be free at the point of delivery and that it is based on clinical need, not ability to pay.

Operational Vision Statement:

  • The medical centre(s) will run as social enterprise (non-profit) organisations by ensuring that all profits are reinvested into the service.
  • All party staff are expected to enrol/register into the programme and pay an amount into the project fund commensurate with their earning, based on percentage from their medical allowance.
  • The organisation will continuously raise funds from diverse but legitimate sources both local and from international donors to ensure continuous access to high quality services.

Party members who are medical and allied health professionals will be encouraged to provide services as well as run skill transfer programmes as services to the party

Short brief on People’s Health Foundation e-health Proposition (PHF e-health):

E-health is an emerging field in the intersection of medical informatics, public health and business, referring to health services and information delivered or enhanced through the Internet and related technologies. It aims to improve health care locally,

regionally, and worldwide by using information and communication technology to pool or link diagnostic and management expertise. PHF recognizes and acknowledges that timely solution of healthcare challenges require collaboration across the healthcare disciplines and technology. Therefore, to provide a new initiative for presenting timely and better access to health solutions, PHF is intending to partner with world-leading organizations in e-health solution especially from the leading e-health uptake countries for example the Scandinavian countries and USA.

Fund raising strategies:

Annexure 1: Peoples Health Foundation Funding and Fundraising Strategies

  1. How to generate consistent Funding for PHF
  • Launching: This is the most veritable platform to introduce the initiative and solicit for partnership and funding from individuals and organisations in Nigeria.
  • Donors:These will come from individuals, institutions and foundations who share in the dream and want to be associated with it in the long term.
  • Staffs/Workers Medical Allowances: Should be able to cover 20% of the annual budget of the service.
  • NGOs – We will reach out to known international NGOs who could support in logistics, materials, know-how and funding, for example Action Health Incorporated, Family Health International, Ford Foundation, Red Cross, Red Crescent and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Aspirants: All members seeking elective offices should be urged to donate. This not only demonstrates commitment to help sustain the party, but also

  • as a token of appreciation for the hard work party staff put into ensuring that the party continues to thrive.
  • Party’s Contribution: Real commitment from the party is paramount and should be reflected on the amount voted to support the running of the project. This is one area the Board of Trustees and members of advisory council of PHF should exert their influence in promoting the essence of PHF into the party’s fabric.
  • Fundraising:This is a sophisticated means of raising fund when managed properly and by professional fundraisers. We may likely involve a third party who specialises in fundraising to work with us on this arm.
  1. Fundraising:

The following headings are suggested to carry the fundraising platforms:

  • Health Tips
  • Events
  • Corporate Partnership

2.1. Health Tips:

  • The level of awareness in health-related matters has been significantly increased by the advent of social media. Some of the information through these platforms are not what medications to take when ill, it bothers on what we already know, natural things to indulge in or change of lifestyle to keep us fit. And some of this social media health information are only wrong but may be harmful. This trend has created a lot of digital followers who are eagerly waiting for useful health tips to save them huge medical bills.

Peoples Health Foundation should have as one of its primary strategies a health information arm that creates communications/tips on Cancer, Malaria Prevention, Hygiene, Keep Alive techniques, High Blood Pressure/Hypertension Control, Thyroid Health checks, Kidney infection

  • In truth, lack of medical advice has killed a lot of our people especially educated and well-placed individuals.
  • These tips will be communicated through mobile phones and Health seminars. We will endeavour to sign on with mobile telephone providers in the country for effectiveness.
  • How To Raise Fund through this Initiative:
  • Mobile Phones (GSM):NCC, said the number of active mobile phone lines in the country rose to 144 million in December 2017. What a leap! Like the ringtones, subscribers have the option of listening to current health tips at a fee. This procedure could be translated into major languages which will target the grassroots where quality medical services are non-existence.
  • Health Seminars:Virtually all corporate organisations make provisions for medical allowances for their staffs and will equally encourage them to attend health seminars or in-house health workshops. PHF, for a fee, will actively latch on this including Keep Alive campaigns with pharmaceutical companies.
